Ultimate Geek Fu road trips and summer vacations and movies about same. Join the discussion...

Arisia and Arvid are the co-winners of the "Same Thing We Do Every Night, Pinkie" challenge. All this and more, this week in THE FRIDAY CHALLENGE.

Now for latest Friday Challenge:

"What Is In a Name"
Here are the entries for the 7/30/10 lesser Friday Challenge, in which we challenged you to write a story to go with the title "The Rabbi, the Nun, the Talking Dog, and Everything." Entries are presented in approximately the order in which they were submitted:

The Bandit, "The Rabbi, the Nun, the Talking Dog, and Everything"

Triton, "The Rabbi, the Nun, the Talking Dog, and Everything"

Miko, "Petey" (drop.io, password "challenge")

ApolloKioku, "The Rabbi, the Nun, the Talking Dog, and Everything" or LHVIA

If we've missed any entries, or if anyone has snowdogged in an entry after the deadline, please let us know so we can fix this list. As always, even if you haven't posted an entry this week—even if you never enter in any week—you are invited to read, comment on, and vote for your favorites. Don't be shy about leaving feedback on the writer's sites, either. Writers thrive on knowing that somewhere out there, someone is actually reading the words that they have written. The winner will be announced Sunday evening.

"Postcards With An Edge"

Anyone can write a long story, assuming they're willing to spend the time at the keyboard to pound out all those words. But to write a complete story in only a handful of sentences, to have a beginning, middle, and end? That takes work! And planning! And, we hope, no more than one week.

Your challenge this week is to pretend you are on vacation or traveling for business or some such similar situation in which you might send postcards to someone back home. In the space of no more than four postcards, write a complete story. To settle some questions in advance, yes, these can be "written" on the back of some of those big postcards (they're something like eight inches by six inches, if memory serves me) and you can claim to have really small handwriting. But the judges still have to believe you will be able to fit what you write on the back of those postcards.

Adventure! Mystery! Romance! All await your pen and postcards. So why are you still reading this? Get writing!

As always, we're playing by the loosely enforced and rarely updated Official Rules of THE FRIDAY CHALLENGE, and playing for whatever is behind Door #3. The deadline for this one is midnight Central time, Thursday, August 12.
