The Return of the Son of It Came From the Slushpile

IT'S BA-ACK!

Beginning today—well, more honestly, beginning next Tuesday; I for one fully intend to spend this weekend drinking beer and watching fireworks—the Friday Challenge Ruling Tetrarchy is reading submissions for Stupefying Stories II: Tales to Scare Your Socks Off. (Okay, that's a lame title. It's provisional. We'll come up with something better later.)

This time around, our theme is horror. Scary stuff. Things that go bump in the night. The Thing without a Name. (Notice how cleverly we tie this all together?) In other words, it's our Halloween issue, and we're looking for the creepy, the kooky, the mysterious and ooky; straight horror, sci-fi horror (if Van Vogt's "Black Destroyer" isn't horror, I don't know what is), horror-comedy, the merely chilling and the downright frightening—and yes, we'll even consider paranormal romance. We're secure enough in our gender identities to do that.

Nothing merely nauseating, please; that hot dog I had at the town carnival last weekend took care of that topic for months to come. Nor are we interested in seeing simple violence for gratuitous violence's sake, or religious screeds trying to pass themselves off as stories. But beyond that—

Think dark. Think scary. Think creepy.

And think fast, because the deadline for submissions is Sunday, July 31.

Any questions?
