Unfortunately, I didn't really get into comic books until I was a freshman in college. I read some comics as a kid, mostly because the kid across the street inherited a bunch of stuff from his older brothers, but I don't really remember any titles other than Daredevil.

There are a couple of titles I have fond memories of and wouldn't mind seeing again. The first was a whimsical title DC comics published called 'Mazing Man. There weren't any superheroes or villains or anything like that. It was just a fun little comic about a group of people living on the same block. One of those people was 'Mazing Man, who wore a cape and maybe a mask, but had no superpowers other than a strong willingness to help others (by babysitting or picking up stuff at the store). DC only published 12 issues.

Another title, far more of a "traditional" comic book, was Atari Force. The book came out in the early '80s, had a space opera setting and featured a team of operatives who had some stuff at least somewhat like super powers. The problem was the title was in the planning stages at the same time Warner bought Atari and just before the early '80s video game crash (significantly egged on by the way Warner handled Atari after buying it). Some genius in Warner's marketing department insisted the comic book be called Atari Force because "Atari is super hot right now!" The title had nothing to do with video games, of course, but because of it most adult readers of comic books never even tried the book. I only tried it because I worked part time in a newsstand and could read new comic books without buying them. I thought it was fun and had an atypical science fiction setting, which helped separate it from most of the other books in print at the time.Henrynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-172555520574028929.post-43259918519052805292009-04-22T14:08:00.000-05:002009-04-22T14:08:00.000-05:00They couldn't do The Haunted Tank any more.
